What Is Scalp Micropigmentation, and How Can It Restore Your Confidence? An Interview With Dennis From Scalp Art

Thinning hair and baldness affect millions of men and women, and for many, it takes a real toll on confidence. One increasingly popular solution is scalp micropigmentation (SMP): a technique that recreates the look of a fuller head of hair or a clean, shaved look, without surgery.

We sat down with Dennis, the artist behind Scalp Art in Bergen op Zoom, to learn more about the treatment, who it's for, and how the right aftercare can make all the difference.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and Scalp Art?

"I've been a tattoo artist for many years, and a while ago I decided to focus specifically on scalp micropigmentation. I wanted to use everything I'd learned about precision and skin to help people who struggle with thinning hair or baldness feel good about how they look again. That's really the reason I do this: seeing someone look in the mirror and feel confident again."

What exactly is scalp micropigmentation?

"It's a technique where tiny pigment dots are placed in the top layer of the scalp, mimicking the look of tiny hair follicles. Depending on what someone wants, it can recreate a natural hairline, add density to thinning areas, or create a clean shaved-head look. It works for both men and women, and for anyone from early thinning to more advanced hair loss."

How does it help people's confidence?

"Hair loss doesn't just change how you look, it can really affect how you feel and how you move through the world. I see it constantly: people come in feeling a bit insecure, and leave with their shoulders back. It's not about vanity, it's about feeling like yourself again."

Why do you think it's important to combine scalp micropigmentation with good hair care?

"The pigmentation itself takes care of density and appearance, but the health of your scalp and any remaining hair still matters just as much. That's actually why I recommend ZENLUCA's natural hair care products as aftercare to my clients: keeping the scalp in good condition supports the result, and for clients who still have hair alongside their treated areas, it also helps that hair stay as strong as possible."

What would you say to someone who's considering it, but hasn't taken the step yet?

"Just come and talk. A lot of people wait years before finally doing something about it, simply because they weren't sure or felt a bit awkward about it. There's really no need for that."
